Hey Amarillo Walgreens Please Learn New State Laws We Beg You
Sundays can be a really weird day. Especially when it comes to buying beer and wine. There are time frames that you can't purchase any at all. It's the only item I can think of that they put time limits on you.
I never understood the whole Sunday rule growing up. I remember my grandpa would get so mad. We would be traveling over the summer and depending on what state we were in would limit whether he could have a beer or not. Oh, that made him mad if we were in a state where he could not buy one on a Sunday.
Why was that a thing anyway? It never made sense. Then over the years, it loosened up a bit. We could buy beer and wine on Sunday but we had to wait until noon. OK great, it's still dumb but whatever.
Then last September the State of Texas finally made things a bit easier. The new glorious time to purchase was ten am. OK, life is getting better. So it has been over a year since Texas legally changed its beer and wine sales to ten am. Now that is important to this story to remember that.
So on Sunday I got up in the cold and rain and did a training walk with my friend. We walked eight miles. By the time we were done, I wanted to get home. I had to stop at the store to get a few items. It was a quick trip to Walgreens on Georgia.
Once I got all the stuff I needed for my daughter and granddaughter I decided I deserved a beer to warm me up. So I grabbed some out of the fridge. Now my Apple watch said it was 11:44 am. So I could purchase it. Or so I thought.
When I got in line and started to make my purchase the cashier said she couldn't sell me the beer. Why, I asked. Their system wouldn't let them. OK, even the guy in line behind me said "Yeah, beer and wine you can now buy after 10 am." I told them that the law changed over a year ok. Get with the program Walgreens.
The guy in line behind me said that you would think a manager could override the system. I am not one for making waves but man I just walked eight miles. I am still soaking wet. I didn't want to wait around for fifteen minutes. I just wanted to go home and dry off. Oh, and I wanted a beer while doing so. I feel like I deserved it.
Instead, I just picked up lunch and went home without a beer. Even though I know I could and probably should have gone to Market Street for all my purchases. I mean they will and have sold me a beer before noon on Sunday. Since the new state law was enacted I have tested it out just to make sure. Yep, you can buy it.
So Walgreens maybe you should look up Texas State law and update your system. Apparently, according to the cashier, I was not the only one she had to deny that day. So they are losing sales. You might want to fix the problem and your system. Just maybe.
