In a world where streaming seems to be the way of the world, this can't come as too much of a surprise. The Redbox Kiosks are all going away. Just like the Hastings went away. Just like the Blockbusters went away. Just like Netflix's DVD service went away. Now it is Redbox's turn.

You really can't be too shocked by that. Even though the announcement was just recently made.

What I am really surprised about is how many Redbox locations we have in Amarillo. The only one I really noticed was the one outside the Walgreens on 26th and Georgia. I knew there had to be more but if you were to ask me where to find one that would be the one I would mention.

I wanted to see how many kiosks would be leaving Amarillo and I count a total of twenty-six. There are twenty-six different Redboxes all over Amarillo that are now going away.

What is going to happen to all of those movies? What will come of all of the games? Are they going to end up at a Goodwill? Or will there be an official day coming up that Redbox tells us to come rent a movie or game and it is now yours to keep? Maybe. Or maybe they will start selling them out of the machines at a reduced rate. Hmmm.

Just to think there will be over twenty-five machines being removed from our city at some point.

Have You Ever Rented a Game or Movie From a Redbox?

Even when a free rental was a prize playing United's Monopoly game I don't think I have ever used the kiosk. I always intended to. I just never did. How about you?

Here is to the end of renting a movie or game from a machine and returning it to the same machine. Here is to the end of Redbox in Amarillo and everywhere else.
