New Life Being Brought Into Amarillo Favorite Location

Last year we saw the end to Frank's Bakery. They were a mainstay on Western for years. A much deserved retirement brought and end to this great establishment in Amarillo. Since then the building has been sitting empty.

That was until recently. There seems to be new life being brought into that location at 1923 S Western. It's good to see that building not looking to be empty much longer. It seems Amarillo is getting a new Cuban restaurant.

Right now there are some flags in front and an open sign. The big question is what is the name? What is the menu going to be? We need to know. I have had and really loved the Cuban sandwich but I do believe there is more to it than just that.

So I drove by. There was a banner outside the location that said open. It didn't really look open. Maybe that flag was there just to get our attention.

There was no signage to let us know what the place was called. In fact there was still all the signs that said Frank's Bakery.

There was also one lonely truck in the parking lot so I knew it wasn't open. I don't care what the flag says. Amarillo though finds out as soon as they can about new places for food. I think that is what we live for.

So I did what anyone in my position would do. I wanted to know the story. What is the name of this place going to be? The menu? When will they open? I tracked down contact information for the owner and contacted him.

I saw a menu floating around on Facebook but apparently that is not, in fact, the menu. According to Jose Toscano there is not a menu yet. They are not open yet but they are working on it. According to Jose:

It will be called La Torta Cubana and they will be serving Cuban food and snacks.

Since they are right around the corner from Tascosa High School it make them the perfect location to help feed the high school students. Even though there is not a menu just yet Jose assures me he will send it as soon as he gets one together.

So I know we can't wait to welcome La Torta Cubana to the Amarillo area. We will keep you posted on when they plan to open and a full menu.
