Remember When the Country Barn was on Lakeside? Building Now Gone
Amarillo has definitely changed over the years. I remember when I graduated high school and moved into Amarillo from Canyon. Soncy didn't have much of anything. Now it is full of shopping and places to eat.
It's crazy to watch our city grow as it has.
Recently I took a drive down I40 near Lakeside and noticed that something was missing. A building that had been there for years. Poof. Gone.
I'm talking about the former location of The Country Barn. Remember when it used to be out on Lakeside? That seems like forever ago. After it was there it moved on up I40 to around where Longhorn Steakhouse is now. That seems like forever ago that is was there too.
Since it moved from Lakeside that building did turn into something else.
Do you remember what I am talking about now? Yes, the Horse & Rider. You can tell by looking at the building that it used to be The Country Barn at one point. Now you drive by and it is gone.
It happened sometime last week. I tried to remember a timeline of everything Country Barn-related. I know I found an article about the location on Lakeside from 1981. So yeah it's been a bit. This was in its heyday on Lakeside.
That location was in their dining guide back in July of 1981. Check it out HERE. I know that I used to frequent the one near Soncy in and around 2008. So it had already moved down I40 by then.
The Country Barn took a sad turn and was sold at auction in 2013. The location on the Soncy Access Road was then gone but the former location on Lakeside was still Horse & Rider.
I think they were more a victim of the pandemic. I never heard that they closed. They just were closed. So now the building is gone. It leads us to wonder what is next for that location.
