Early last year we learned about a new restaurant that was coming to Amarillo. It ended up opening last summer. The restaurant in question is Oishii Japanese Sushi & Sake. They moved into the former David's Steakhouse restaurant near Market Street.

When they opened they were one of those sleeper hits. People weren't sure what to expect but once they gave it a try they became fans. They have a lot of interesting dishes that you don't see anywhere else in Amarillo.

The lobster bomb came out smoking. The presentation was great but it was the food that really stood out. The Sashimi Appetizer was again something we never had before but became big fans. Oh, and the snapper ceviche was an instant hit.

Their sushi boats looked heavenly and could be the perfect addition to any celebration. Just watching one of those being brought out to a table leaves everyone starting and a little bit jealous.

Recently I saw a post that Oishii Japanese Sushi & Sake was getting a second location. So when I saw the location it was going to be in the same shopping center as Torchy Taco's it got my brain going. I reached out to the folks at Oishii to see if this is true.

The only other thing the post said was that it was going to be named something different. So I think I solved this mystery that I didn't know at first was a mystery. Is this new location that seems to be part of the Oishii family going to be the soon-to-be Sushi Yama. It looks like it really could be.

All the pieces seem to fit. They have applied for their liquor license so they are going to be here before you know it. I was already excited to try Sushi Yama but that excitement grew when I found they are going to be part of Oishii. That gives me even more hope that this is going to be another good place.
