It's been a while since our dumpsters started getting emptied just once a week. An employee shortage caused this mess in the first place.

Since the announcement came out in July that we were going to one time a week dumpster emptying it's been a literal mess.

I knew that Amarillo couldn't handle this. I knew that our alleys would just end up a huge mess. Oh, and have they? Trash has been everywhere. I feel like it has been worse in my neighborhood and why I have felt personally attacked by this change. I have a dumpster and house at the corner of a busy street and I40. So people love to come to dump their trash behind my fence. It's been a nightmare.  The City of Amarillo tried to come up with different ways to make this work.

None of them just really worked. The best answer? Coming up with a way to finally get the employees that we need. Nothing was going to be fixed until that happened and we could go back to having our dumpsters emptied twice a week.

We just have too much trash in Amarillo for anything less. This nightmare of once-a-week dumpster empties in Amarillo has been happening since July. It's about time to end this mess for us.

They were needing to hire forty-two new employees to bring this all to an end with full force. They need about thirty-six drivers to get back to twice-a-week service. While they have not reached that goal yet they are at least getting close. I can't help but get a little bit excited over that news.

Now I know if I had one of those rollaway trash cans I would not have been affected at all. I have never wanted one and am still glad I don't have that headache to deal with. I mean if I have to stack my trash on my back porch for now I will.

The City of Amarillo has said that they have been hiring as much as they can. They are about to even train some more and they are getting awfully close. They have raised the starting pay from sixteen an hour to nineteen and so that has really helped. So of course money talks. You don't say?

So here is to more new hires. Here is to ending this trashy state of our city. Lets all hope for more new hires so that we can get our trash rightfully collected twice a week again.
