This one stung. I got a text earlier telling me that one of my favorite places to eat in downtown Amarillo closed. When I worked in the area we would walk there at least once a week if not more.

So I wasn't ready for it. Yes, it is a great location during baseball season when the Sod Poodles are in town. Being right across the street from the ballpark makes it a great place to be before the game.

Other than that I don't know how busy they were and that is what gets me. I am talking about Joe Taco Downtown. When I heard the news I had to shoot a text over to one of my former co-workers to see if the news was true.

His response:

It is true, I went there Friday, it was the last day. I believe the cost was too much for renting and not enough events either.

We went so much that we decided to make sure we tried everything on the menu. We pretty much did it. So I took another drive down to the restaurant to see if there was a sign on the door.

There was. The sign gave us some bad news. It also gave us some good news to look forward to. A new location in Amarillo. No, it won't be in downtown Amarillo but it still will be a pretty good place to be. A location that is growing in Amarillo.

So they have already started construction at 58th and Georgia. Ok, good to know. Until then you can visit their location in Canyon or near the hospital. Long live Joe Taco. Seriously.
